If you haven’t smashed enough pigs on your mobile phone by now, you’ll have the chance to do so on the Wii U this year. Activision and Rovio have announced that the Angry Birds Trilogy series–already available on Nintendo 3DS–will be heading to Wii U in 2013. The Trilogy set recently passed 1 million sales world wide.

It’s certainly not Rayman, but it’s nice to see games coming to the Wii U finally. We’ve had a barren drought of no announcements outside of Nintendo Direct for a bit too long now. What do you think of this news? Let us know in the comments.

Very intriguing news. Previously, WiiU was doubted on the account that mobile phones are taking the market. Can see how the gamepad allows Angry birds to WiiU. Just goes to show WiiU is in actual fact capable of competing against mobile gaming. Many games they run, WiiU may be able to do better

    • I Can’t Think of a Name

& I can see how the Wiimote can be used to fly the birds!

    • Tim van Broekhoven

But think about the lack of multitouch the wii u has…

      • Ben Vangenechten

But think of all the buttons and sticks that make up for that.

  • I don’t know if I can justify buying games on a console that would probably be a couple bucks on iOS or Android. To each his own I guess. My bet the Wii U version won’t be priced low.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Most likely not. In this case, people are better off sticking to iOs or Android.

  • Wayne Beck

lol How sad is it that I’m totally going to buy this? Let’s hope for some Wii U Specific Features. Maybe some Down Range Levels? Pain style, but less stupid..

    • Sidney Majurie

Not that sad. Angry Birds is fun but I don’t like playing it on my phone. If the price is right, getting this for my Wii U would be sweet. It’ll also be a Trojan Horse to get the wife to play more Wii U 😀

      • andrewjcole

Yeah… price. If it’s gonna be $50 (which I highly doubt), good luck Angry Birds.

        • Johny

it should be an e-shop download for cheaper imo

  • The Wii U’s unique tablet and motion control system is perfect for games like these.  If they are cheap enough I may pick them up.

  • scarlet

Does this game have the Mighty Eagle?

  • Nintendo stays with the baby games.  They are fucking up!  TRICKLE in the baby games, but do not promote them as your main offerings, unless of course that is all that you have.  These announcements will not win Nintendo any new or old fans, only those who have to ask their parents to buy them something!

    • jwbeckman

This is definitely not promoted as a main offering, I don’t recall Nintendo ever mentioning that they have Angry Birds available on any of their systems. They definitely have never talked about them in a Nintendo Direct before.

    • bizzy gie

Stupid. Angry Birds released on ALL THE CONSOLES retard.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

He’s a troll. Most likely a 360 fanboy as well as it’s all he has apparently. Obviously he thinks he’s an analyst and people will buy his nonsensical “facts.” I’m sure he’ll say something to defend his so called facts any way he can. It’s what trolls do.

        • bizzy gie

He doesn’t own a Wii U, but hangs out on a website dedicated to a console HE hates because he belives he’s “stating the facts”. What he doesn’t realize is that he’s an EXTREMELY bias Sexbox 369 fagboy with absolutely NO facts to back up any of his stupid allegations.

    •  So you are going to have to ask your parents to buy this for you?  I bet you throw a temper tantrum at the toy store so your mommy will buy you that rated M game you want because in your eyes that makes you a hardcore gamer

      • Daniel Gonzalez

CoD nor GTA games make you a hardcore gamer. A true hardcore gamer is someone who plays games no matter what console and they sure don’t badmouth others tastes in gaming. We call people like that a troll, those who are insecure and make themselves feel better by trying to make others and failing even in making their lives miserable.

  • DragonSilths

Meh, no interest. I guess playing it fully on the gamepad would be better then a small phone screen but still.

  • Angry birds is for babies

    •  YOu and Donaald should become good friends.  You can go have a circle jerk and tell each other about baby games all day.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

        Match made in heaven.

      • I would say I have the right to my opinion 🙂 I was just kidding though, it’s not a bad game. Not my taste but I’ve played it on Android and it’s fun.

  • catsby

Why??! These games are OLD, been out on iphone store and android for idk how long.. Stop giving us old games everyone already played!

    • Holyfire

These games in particular are old, but future iOS and android games could come out on WiiU to, because WiiU hardware supports it (all it lacks is multi touch perhaps on its touch screen)
The value of this story is that WiiU can take the mobile/tablet gaming market head on. Anything they have, WiiU can have a higher res, more complex or sophisticated version of. Also because everyone downloads these games mainly for free, or demo’s on the iOS and androids stores. Having games like this on the Nintendo platform means the developers can probably make more money, gives them incentives to make better gaming products now to

    • Tim van Broekhoven

Yeah, and why should you even buynthis? I got all the ab games fir free…

  • Laud

I wish the game I made could be ported to Wii U, it’d be awesome.

    • Arthur Jarret

They’re going to change policies so ‘garage-developers’ can get a dev kit.

If your game is good, you might just get funding for one on kickstarter.

    • andrewjcole

They should do it like in the Ninja Star game in Nintendo Land where you flick the throwing with the touchscreen and hit the ninjas. (This is easier to understand if you played the game before.)

  • Brian

I’ve been wanting Angry Birds 3D to come to the Wii U, how cool would it be to use the gampad like the ninja star game in ‘Nintendo Land’ to throw the birds on the screen??!!

  • Oh, terrific. I can buy a shit game that should be free.

Crush the Castle did it first and better; Angry Birds is crap.

    Why? Just why…

  • WarioForever

Guys, are you alright? Do you remember that Rovio in the past, said that Angry Birds are better than Mario? Do you remember the insults Rovio took on Nintendo? Well, think.
And it’s embarassing to call this piece of crap a game.

  • thedeciderU

At least it’s a game, but when are the REAL games coming to Wii U? I am happy with what I own (NSMBU, ZombiU, Black Ops II, Trine 2) and think there is tons of potential (innovation wise, graphic wise, IP wise, etc.) but Nintendo needs to stop being so secretive. The Nintendo direct was a huge let down on Wii U titles besides a couple that we’ve known about. They need to release a couple blow-your-mind games. The ports are great and are expected at this time, but the wait is fucking killing me. Anyone else?

  • Sol Ridgeway

Angry Birds Level in Smash Bros…. It could actually happen now.

  • Jef Dinsmore

I have never played Angry Birds in any form. I think my wife and I may both enjoy this game when it comes out.

  • Meh… no interest in this

  • RattleGore

Please don’t buy this, can persons not seeing they are being ripped off. The entire trilogy cost $3-$5 on smartphones.. Licensing isn’t so high that it warrants a + $30 hike in price.  I love the games, but i can’t support blatant ripping off gamers.. At most this should at leasts cost between $15-20..

Cant believe they sold 1 mil +, of this on console already..

  • MetroidZero

    Not for me.
