According to a new report from Interpret, a market research firm, Amiibo figures are primed to be one of the holiday’s most desired toys in the United States, Europe and Brazil. Jason Coston of Interpret says there are 72 million children around the globe who are interested in the toys, making them highly desired even before they’re released. We tested interest in an extensive list of current and potential smart toy brands and even prior to the Amiibo announcement, smart toys based on Nintendo characters were among the most desired smart toys in the US, Europe and Brazil. With Nintendo finally capitalizing on its franchises and bringing its characters into the world of smart toys, this holiday season could see a massive influx of income for the company, similar to what Skylanders and Disney Infinity has done for Activision and Disney respectively. local_offer amiibo Nintendo wii u stars Further Reading Here’s how insanely big that new Pikach The new Detective Pikachu Amiibo is huge and Justin Smart toys, the movie toy soldier is becoming a reality. Mayoo Would work for Toy Story too Justin Or was it called small soldiers? Jackson five Do you mean small soldiers? Toy soldiers is that movie when that school gets overran by terrorists and the kids join together to take em out.. unless there’s some other movie named toy soldier I don’t know of. Justin Yeah, that’s the one I meant. Think I’ve only seen it once and a half times. matthew garcia I guess Nintendo doesn’t always innovate and does follow sometimes just like everyone else Denvy Depends really. It’s possible they’ll be used in more innovative ways than the general crop of them are now. We don’t know a whole lot yet. darkcreap I think that so far, from what they explain, the amiibos are thought to be used as a place to store your personal “play style” and use it either as a partner or a rival, if I understood correctly. I do not know too much about Skylanders, but I think that they work in a different way, correct? I saw an advertisement recently and all they seem to do is to unlock content and characters in-game. In the advertisement you could see children swapping figurines one after the other. Nintendo’s idea is not exactly copying. I mean, yes, they are using NFC figurines, but the use is different. Amiibos seem to be thought more towards being used rather than “buy a lot of them”. I mean, by the way they describe it, it seems that there is no incentive in having an army of figurines to win a game. JB That’s what I was getting ready to say. As it is, amiibo’s already different from the rest of the market by how it’s multi IP compatible. To add, Matthew has a point to an extent. If Activision came to Nintendo in 2011 about the Skylanders concept, then I’m sure the wheels started spinning for them as a way to add figurines to the Wii U tech, that’s if they hadn’t already had thought of incorporating an NFC reader into the gamepad. matthew garcia Everybody always makes something better but it’s the initial innovation that has the most success. Ps move and Kinect were both more advance then Wii but Nintendo had the idea first and had more success with motion gaming Rinslowe “Everybody always makes something better but it’s the initial innovation that has the most success. “ Say what? Lol that’s just wrong. Being the first has never guaranteed being the best or selling the most. There’s entire books worth of debating because of this fact as to “what” the innovation was to begin with. This goes for all inventions ever. matthew garcia Apple was a first for computers and smart phones. There pretty successful Rinslowe It’s not universal and it’s not unanimous. Also depends on the sector. Please don’t try to push this point. It’s painfully incorrect as a “general fact”… Even this latest example could be picked apart or should I say “ripped apart”. The first for computers? Wow. First for smart phones? Say what? Apple wasn’t the first for either. There are also different examples that can be given on both sides that shows a different fact for concept and fruition to market that supports “other” companies on those fronts… I’ll stop here, but am fully ready and willing to provide facts if you’re looking to prove a point. iamserious No. they were not the first to make computers or smart phones lol Rinslowe It seems this comment is in need of a point. matthew garcia Nintendo is following Skylanders Rinslowe Why didn’t you just say that? matthew garcia U were the only one confused on my post. Other people replied just fine koopapoopas I was also confused. I thought you were talking about Pokemon Rumble U. Rinslowe I wasn’t confused. It was a lol comment I was replying to… vexedpython they work nothing like skylanders though as they are virtual players to train and play games with/for you instead of just playing as what you put down. Juan Benitez Does this count as an amiibo? LOL Rinslowe Nope. That my friend would be an Amiibro. Justin I’d like to see Nonspecific action figure. Daniel Carvalho Nintendo should do a series of games for the non-specific action figure, with action, RPG, strategy and platformer titles, all of them being compatible with Non-Specific Action Figure’s Amiibo! MARIO’SMOUSTACH Too good Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog Don’t Think So. Pablo Lavín Most of the people wants them without having a Wii U. I will feel like an asshole when people without Wii U buys the last one on the store. Vile-Okami I’d probably buy them even if they didn’t do anything. They look really good. wiimenonowiiu Its not a toy its an action figure lol darkcreap Good. Really good. Glad to hear positive news!!!!! This was a right move from Nintendo. Nintendo has a very special attitude to fight back when they are in difficulties. Where others surrender they try something new. Some times it does not work or it takes time to work, like the WiiU. But they just don’t surrender when they believe in their own products. David Trail The Wii U is a great console imo. More people need to get their heads out of their asses. David Trail Oh, yeah I am getting everyone of them. Gotta catch em all! LevenThumps Really good news. I’m interested to see how these figures will work outside of Smash. David Trail Nintendo are always welcome to my money. I have no problem with them milking me as long as the milk is good lol. Daniel Carvalho That sounds just wrong… bistricky LOL !! Rinslowe I’m glad it wasn’t just me that got a little creep’d out by that one… o_O Daniel Gonzalez As bad as it sounds….coming from Davey, I wouldn’t put it past him. Daniel Gonzalez Amusing blunder, though. Daniel Gonzalez Soooo…..you have no problem with them milking you….yeah, I think we gotcha dude. Say no more. No really….say no more. iamserious So funny how people decided to interpret what you said lol Dáibhí wotshissurname That’s wrong in both the way it souds and that you would just chuck money at a company like that. Justin Carlson Why can’t we have the characters be more like an ‘action figure’ and less like a ‘statue’ ? Maybe just being able to take them off of their base would be good. I know my kids would like that a lot better. David Trail Maybe they are not for kids? Maybe they are for everyone? They appeal to more people like this. matthew garcia Toys are for kids lol. David Trail No, they are not. Have you been to games work shop? matthew garcia I’m 28 and I have no interest in these toys. Now my 12 year old little sister would and I would buy some for her David Trail Go to games work shop and you will see that figurines are for everyone. These are more figurines than toys mate. matthew garcia I guarantee there aim and development was meant for children David Trail Nope, Nintendo is for everyone and so are figurines. You don’t know what you are talking about. Go to games work shop and you will understand. Also go to a comic book store where they sell figurines. matthew garcia Lol it even said in this article 72 million children are interested in amiibo. They never even mentioned adults David Trail Like I said. Go to games work shop and comic book stores. Then you will understand. Children are interested in it but so are adults to. matthew garcia I bet the adults interested are more of a rarity and the majority would definitely be children. David Trail Nope, just like the myth that Nintendo is for only children. Yet, loads of adults play Nintendo. matthew garcia Loads of adults had Wii for motion gaming like dancing and working out. Now that stuff is out of fad Wii u numbers dropped a shitload. I’m pretty sure all those lost customers from Wii to Wii u were adults. David Trail I am an adult I bought the Wii for Nintendo exclusives. matthew garcia Me to but not for Mario but for Zelda and metroid and x. None of which I can’t play yet David Trail There is nothing wrong with the Mario games. Maybe you should give them a try. Oh but you are too much of an adult. Try New Luigi Bros U. One of the toughest games out. matthew garcia I have nothing against Mario I just lost interest over time. I use to play it years ago. Just don’t care much for platforming no more David Trail I doubt that you have lost interest. You seem to be someone who is trying too hard to seem like he is an adult but in reality you are an insecure adult. matthew garcia Lol oh shut up. I just don’t care to jump around like a monkey and test my reflexes anymore. I m more into just thinking now with games like Zelda and other western or eastern rpgs. Even rts games like xcom and final fantasy tactics are more of my thing now also David Trail Just thinking now. That is funny. Testing your reflexes uses a lot of thinking power. matthew garcia That’s more concentrating not thinking. Thinking is strategic like final fantasy tactics. Like I said that’s more of my thing now David Trail By concentrating on something. That involves a lot of thinking, no? matthew garcia I rather think in a chess way then a jumping around Like a monkey way lol David Trail I think it is you who is childish. Not the Amiibo’s. matthew garcia Sorry but like I said not everyone has to like Mario. I’m not sure why but it seems to bother you that I don’t like Mario. Get over it David Trail Like I said, I don’t think that you dislike Mario. I think you think playing Mario makes you a child but your way of thinking makes you more like a child than playing Mario ever could. matthew garcia Like I said in the previous post I’m not into platforming anymore that can be other games also that are not Mario. Get over trying to search for something that isn’t there lol David Trail Ha, I doubt that is the case. Let go of your inhibitions. They are holding you back, mate. matthew garcia Nothing about video games can hold somebody back lol. U do realize people have other goals in life other then video games lol David Trail Yes, these same inhibitions are probably holding you back in the real world as well. Just trying to help. Pre-conceived notions are not a good thing. matthew garcia Your the one living in fantasy land judging people by typing and not knowing what a person is truly like. You can’t tell emotions through a forum David Trail Yes, you come across as an insecure man. matthew garcia You come across as person who likes video games way to much and probably don’t have much else in life Daniel Gonzalez I guess playing Xbox One or PS4 would make him too much like an adult. So many generalizations here, that it’s hilarious. You can easily tell he’s upset that there are people who don’t care for platformers. I think we both know who are the insecure individuals here. It’s not neither of us. Let the hate flow through them and eat them away. As you said, you have other things to do than video games. Same goes for me. With that said, it’s family time. Good luck with the fanboys here man. Peace. 😛 David Trail I play PS4 and Xbox One games occasional and they make me feel like a child, too many check points, hand holding and automatic healing. That is why I love Nintendo. David Trail http://glup.me/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/The-truth-about-little-pony_little-ponytruth-target-audience-actual-audience-black-ops-call-of-duty-pokemon-audience-little-pony-audience-who-watch-little-pony-who-cares-about-little-pony.jpg I’ll leave you with this to ponder, Daniel. 00EpicGamer00 I think ol’ David makes Nintendo his entire focus in life. And probably ignores events in the real world. “School shooting?” David: lol what? What dat? I be to buzy with my Mario’s. “Mass murder?” David: when dat happen? Too much Zelda up in here.” “Missed 5 payments on bills?” David: what? Oh well, that not importan. What IS importan is recuing Peach for the millionth time, lol my life!” Also, I’m not sure why David just can’t accept the fact that you don’t like Mario anymore. I don’t think David releases that humans can have different likes and dislikes. I’m not exactly the biggest fan of Mario either. The only game I have of him is Mario 3D World. I’ll eventually get Mario Kart (once the people on Game fly quit hogging it). The only other Mario games I’ll get is if Nintendo makes a Mario Galaxy 3 or a Paper Mario game. Mario Party 10? Nah. It looks like a copy and paste of 9. The dreaded vehicles are back. O.O iamserious Uh the argument between these two is a bit different than what you are explaining here and seems to go for miles lol 00EpicGamer00 Yeah I know. I’m not sure why I responded with that. It seemed like a good idea at the time. :/ David Trail Your comment makes you look like a toddler. koopapoopas I think he’s a teenager. He can’t even write properly. matthew garcia Sorry but that picture you have of that little baby cartoon character makes u look like your a toddler koopapoopas You don’t know he is? I guess you aren’t techie enough to recognize him. Maybe because you are a teenager pretending to be 28? Also, you forgot to add “lol.” koopapoopas But you can tell maturity based on whether people want to collect figurines? koopapoopas Yeah. Like using proper grammar and not ending every comment with a “lol.” David Trail That made me laugh out loud ; ) koopapoopas You forgot to add another “lol” after that comment. koopapoopas The Wii U can play Zelda AND Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. I can enjoy both. In fact I like playing as a second player using a Wiimote and a Nunchuck. I will look like a smiling fool, but that’s OK since you won’t be there to be better than me. iamserious I’m 30 and I am interested in these even if they are aimed at kids. Doesn’t matter to me. koopapoopas I agree completely. It’s for kids of all ages. I’m an adult, and I would like to display these for design inspiration and also for using in games. David Trail So they are for everyone. My point is proven. matthew garcia I’m into playing guitar and rather use music as inspiration then toys David Trail Why can you not have both? I like to call them figurines. Not toys. You don’t exactly play with them. Well you can but that is not the Amiibo’s main purpose. koopapoopas Good for you. You are definitely a better person than me. How can I be like you? matthew garcia I’m just saying what I do just be yourself David Trail You to be yourself. Don’t let other people tell you what is adult and what isn’t. I know that is not you speaking for yourself. matthew garcia Dude u play what u want I’m just saying what I have interest in. I’m not telling anybody to be different idiot David Trail Let me give you an example. I didn’t used to like coffee but guess what? koopapoopas No you aren’t saying that. You are saying you are more adult. “Toys are for kids lol.” Maybe you should stop playing video games since they are childish too. Virus6 Some people see cars as toys. A toy is not for kids. Ducked I still don’t see why there worth buying. Nintendo needs to show more features. David Trail They are collectibles, will be worth a lot of money in the future, they are figurines, they work in various games. Fred They will show us more features. They’ll show us how they work with Mario Kart and Captain Toad before Christmas. They’ll want to as Mario Kart has already sold 2 million copies and they’ll want to sell Amiibo to all those people and why stop at 2 games before Christmas when they can throw Captain Toad in and have a 3rd. David Trail I like the Link, Donkey Kong and Samus Amiibo’s the best. Will.F. Martinez Mainly want them just as a collectable rights now Virus6 Same here. The functionality is just a plus. Rinslowe Oh yeah yeah Jason Coston aka; Reggie. 🙂 Jokes… Shane Michaels To quote a line from Diary of a Wimpy Kid: “THEY ARE NOT TOYS, THEY ARE FIGURINES.” David Trail Hey, I am an adult and I am using that line lol. Shane Michaels Thanks… for telling me you are an adult. I would never have gathered. David Trail Well, I wouldn’t have guessed that you are an adult from that response. Glad I could clear things up for you ; ) Shane Michaels http://i39.tinypic.com/2el9ov6.jpg David Trail Ha ha, petulant child. Shane Michaels http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lszdr9W4FU1qlrzy2.gif David Trail … Shane Michaels You were joking, right? David Trail I hope you were. Shane Michaels …Let us never speak of this again. David Trail I think that is wise. Darkness Seems like this is a way for Nintendo to make even more money off people by not including characters that should already be included included. Who knows though, maybe they might be of more benifit then just unlocking characters or playing with dolls and kiddie toys David Trail What are you talking about? All these characters are in Smash Bros and they work amongst various titles. Darkness I don’t understand what’s the point of them exactly then? David Trail Memory, dlc, Pokemon like things. They have many different functions and they are figurines as well. 00EpicGamer00 I’m a little confused on the matter as well, but I think they are used for leveling up your character and making customized move sets in Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS. For example, say you play as Mario all the time. If you buy the Amiibo Mario, and use the Amiibo every time, it’ll eventually be stronger than regular Mario in the game. Again, I’m not 100% sure if I’m right here, but this is what I THINK these thing do. For Smash Bros. at least. crocodileman94 In SSB, they work as level 50 CPU’s. But the figurine’s real gimmick is that they’ll work differently depending on which game you play. Kinda like a season pass, but for many different games. vexedpython they are virtual players that gain skill the more they play with you are agiest you. its like a virtual friend to play games with. bistricky Not surprised by the Market Research results. Amiibo is Nintendo’s wildcard. I predict it being on most must-have Christmas toys list …. and with it the Wii U. Lets put it this way ….. to me (and market researchers) ….. it is the Wii U game-changer. Cheers 😀 David Trail Monolithsoft are working on multiple projects. I hope it is a Batien Kaitos 3 and a Disastor Day of Crisis 2. abe i would kill for a proper disaster: day of crisis based on the original concept and not the light gun game we got Cena’s Smirk there are 7 billion people on the planet and only 72 million are children? majora :D Only 72 millions are interested in Amiibos, gosh, learn how to read 00EpicGamer00 Still no Bowser one? 🙁 Nintendoverlord http://i.imgur.com/NoG9K.png this should be an amibo as well. lol majora :D May St Miyamoto listen to us leo he should have been in smash keithmaxx If the figure is just for kids, I wonder how much that number would balloon if they took into account adults craving for Amiibos. keithmaxx By figure, I meant projected demand numbers. anthony optimo Some people will purchase two, one to open, the other will be kept as a collectible. Pretty smart move Nintendo, bravo, BRA-f$d$ing-VO. Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog GIVE ME AN AMIIBO!!! Dáibhí wotshissurname How many kids watch E3?! FutureFox Many I’d think do. Just as many read EGM, Gamepro, GameInformer, etc back in the 80s-90s. Where ever the gaming news is you can bet kids are following it.
