amiibo-figures

Today Nintendo has confirmed several things in regards to their holiday line up for 2014. Perhaps the most important of these is the pricing for Amiibo figures, which will be priced at $12.99 per figure. In addition, Nintendo announced several new hardware bundles for both the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo 2DS.

The Amiibo figures you see in the image above are the Amiibo Series 1 release. The first round of characters for the Amiibo series includes Mario, Peach, Samus, Yoshi, Link, Pikachu, Kirby, Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Donkey Kong and Fox. More figures will be produced in additional series, this is just the launch round-up for the figures.

Sites like Amazon are already taking pre-orders for Amiibo figures and there’s no telling how fast they’ll sell considering how popular Super Smash Bros. and Nintendo characters are in general. Here’s a look at the hardware bundles announced by Nintendo:

Super Smash Bros. bundle

Fans who register both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS version of the game with Club Nintendo will receive the Super Smash Bros. Premium Sound Selection, a soundtrack CD with music taken from the game.

New Hardware Bundles

  • Super Mario 3D World Deluxe Set – This hardware bundle will be available in mid-September and will feature the Wii U deluxe set, as well as a physical copy of Super Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land. Retail price is $299.99.
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Set – This bundle is exclusive to Walmart and will be available in mid-September as well. This bundle includes the Wii U deluxe set and a physical copy of Mario Kart 8 and Nintendo Land.
  • New Nintendo 2DS Bundles – In October, several new Nintendo 2DS bundles will be hitting stores. New colors include Electric Blue, Crimson Red, and Sea Green. Each of these will include a download code for Mario Kart 7 from the Nintendo eShop. Bundles will be priced at $129.99.

It’s happening! Cue the Ron Paul gif please.

  • Ducked

Super Mario 3D World, and Nintendo Land packed in the Wii U Deluxe for just $299.99!? Wow! What a steal! Wii U could be giving the PS4 some tight competition.

    • Ultrasyd

Yup that’s a nice offer. But what is very sad is that i didn’t even see the Mario Kart bundle yet in some shops… only the old packs. What a bunch of morons.

      • Ducked

I’ve seen them, although it’s discounted to $299.99 in September. I know what you mean though, my local walmart still only sells the Nintendo Land bundle.

      • Divaitiie!

        R u from the U.S ? May it’s United States only :P.
        AMERICA FUCK YEAH!

      • Phoenix

I feel your pain. I tried getting an MK8 bundle just a week after E3, and every store I looked for was sold out of them.

        • Ultrasyd

It’s not even that it’s sold out, and I already got the game. But in Europe (France), some store just suck and don’t propose this bundle. That doesn’t help the sells at all :/

          • YogiGRB

same here in holland, only old games and usually just 5 to 10 gamedisks on display

          • Arthur Jarret

Not in my town, which is in the same country (the Netherlands… holland is a province :P). Plenty of Wii U games on Bart Smit, Gamemania an Mediamarkt shelves here.

          • YogiGRB

Damn, your lucky. Bart smit, gamemania have noting on the shelves here in noord-holland (amsterdam) and media markt a little bit. I envy you ๐Ÿ˜›

  • Ducked

Here’s a picture of the 3D World bundle

  • Divaitiie!
    • It’s not that bad a price. See my other comment

      • Divaitiie!

Well, I never said it’s expensive ;D. However, I don’t think it will buy it since i don’t collect toys, just not my thing anymore ;).

      • mr mcgoo

Price is fine. Although it’d be better if we knew exactly what the functionality will be for each (which games they’ll work with, etc.). More details, please Nintendo!

        • Yeah, I wanna know what I’m getting into

    • Fred

      I’m a little disappointed. I was hoping for $9.99

      • BrBa

It’s more than just a toy, maybe Nintendo will add more features in it ;D.

  • As the resident expert on “Toys to Life” Around here, 12.99 is more expensive than base skylanders, but less expensive than specialty ones. Since these figures will work across multiple games, I’d say it’s a pretty fair price. Especially if the build quality of the figures is as good as they appear

  • Merry_Blind

Good to see they’re doing the right thing again (Nntendo are on a roll lately) I’ve been saying for some time that the price point of the Wii U is fine, it just needs more value for that same price point. Combining a big exclusive like MK8 and 3D World with NintendoLand is perfect. Not only does a game like NintendoLand complements well pretty much any other game, but it’s also a perfect showcase for the capabilities of the Wii U. Given that both 3D World and MK8 don’t make that much use of the GamePad, NintendoLand fits in pefectly in those bundles.

Would be great to see them go one step further, with, for example, a Bayonetta 2 + Pro Controller bundle, for the same 300$ price point. Or a Wii Sports Club + NintendoLand + Wiimote/Nunchuk bundle. You know, including peripherals so that the console feels a bit more complete from the get-go and to appeal to people who have no interests in the GamePad; a Pro Controller would ease those in.

  • Divaitiie!

For those who don’t know yet.

    Nintendo just announced ( in the recent 3DS Direct ) a new 3DS called New 3DS … yes that’s right, New 3DS.

    • Trirulian

I like that they put it in english for all of the Americans who watched anyways lol

      • BrBa

Did they ? I watched live on the Nintendo Life and I can’t understand shit XD.

  • IcyCatt

I’m still confused about how Amiibo works? Do you need the figures to unlock characters or are they assist trophies? I’m confused… >.<

    • Merry_Blind

Not sure of everything they can do yet, as they seem to have many different functions. However, no you don’t need to buy Amiibos to unlock characters in Smash (though that might become the case in the future for new characters).

Amiibo are basically glorified memory cards, so they have storage in them to store data. For example, in Smash we know each characters will have customizable moves, and the controls are customizable too, so you’ll be able to store your Smash Profile on your Amiibo of choice, and bring it to a friends’ and jump right into a match without having to customize all your stuff.

  • Zach Cruz

Call me what you want, but I am going to buy the main amiibo characters like pikachu mario and link in hopes that these sell out to make some money off them XP, If they dont sell out well I will just use them myself and oh well ๐Ÿ˜€

  • larz_1234

    Fox I need your amiibo!!!

  • bistricky

$12.99 …. great …… my sources were correct.

YES …….. THE AMIIBO ERA BEGINS !!!!!!
    ๐Ÿ˜€

  • koopapoopas

I want a Samus one – and Smash Brothers.

  • Trirulian

Well now I have to chose one!

  • William Cole

Glad they’re still pushing 3D World. This game deserves so much more than it got.

    • Ducked

Agreed. It’s still the best game on the Wii U in my opinion.

    • Matthew Sizemore

I agree, this game is reason enough to own a Wii U and now it’s getting a bundle of it’s own. It’s a perfect work of art and programming bundled onto a disc.

  • ActivesiN

awesome, 3d world bundle makes way more sense, NSMBU bundle was outdated

    • Chelseafan1989

Nothing wrong with NSMBU. tHERE IS ONE WITH sm3dw, nsmbu AND New Luigi Bros U, PURE AWESOMENESS!

  • MewtwoWillBeBack

I know. (You can see it ever on image ._.)

  • Chelseafan1989

I want to get them all!

  • Chelseafan1989

See it#s only Nintendo bringing the truly new experiences this gen.

  • Christian Schoff

Impressive bundles. Those are amazing deals.

  • mr mcgoo

    Oops. Sorry for double post.

  • mr mcgoo

Do you think certain amiibos will be harder to find than others? Which ones are you getting?

    • Bowsah

I’m going to assume the “popular” characters will be sold out everywhere. By “popular” I mean probably Samus, Link, Pikachu, maybe Mario, and Fox.

The character I want are Link, Yoshi, maybe Donkey Kong, and Kirby. The characters that I’d want that are coming later are Charizard, Greninja, Zelda, Meta Knight and/or Kind Dedede, and definitely Bowser. Come on Nintendo! Hurry up with Bowser! Quit torturing me!

    • Colbster the Man

I just want Duck Hunt Dog

  • masterjedi

I’m getting Wii Fit trainer because I love Wii Fit, and I’ll probably get Link, Peach or Mario in that order for Smash. And yes, I think some of them are going to be terribly hard to find. So many collectors out there. Anyone remember trying to buy the original Voltron figures? You could NEVER find Keith but Hunk was EVERYWHERE!

    • mr mcgoo

This could get expensive! I just finally started getting into Pikmin. I wonder if those figures could work. That game is great!

  • LordiMcKill

Does anyone know what it is in GBP? (Great British Pounds if you have no idea what that means)

    • mralloverit

Current exchange rate has 12.99 USD converting to 7.83 GBP. Google search “usd to gbp” the first result should be a currency converter.

    • YogiGRB

I guess ยฃ10 for you and โ‚ฌ12,99 for the rest of us europeans

  • mralloverit

I’ll definitely be pre-ordering all of them at the end of the month. I just hope the pricing remains consistent as they release more figures.

  • Christian Schoff

Of this set I just want the Link and the Samus ones.

  • bistricky

Hmmm …. let’s take a closer look at the ‘first 12’ amiibo …. to be used with multiple games …
Can we see the ‘future’ games for 2015/2016?.

    Link = Super Smash Bros. + Mario Kart 8 + Zelda U
Pikachu = Super Smash Bros + Pokรฉmon U
Fox McCloud = Super Smash Bros. + Star Fox U
    AND …
    Samus = Super Smash Bros. + Metroid U ……….

amiibo’s will bring, the games we want.
    ๐Ÿ˜€

  • TheRaven

I’ll get a Link, Samus, and Marth/Villager for my first amiibos. These will work in multiple games, right? That will make the $13 price tag more justifiable. I’m not extremely hyped about these, so I may just get them after launch because I see Amazon having a cheaper price tag on these later on (Welfare gamer confirmed, lol). Am I the only one who wants one just for the figurine? lol.

  • steveb944

Damn it did Mart sell out already?! Got my Link order tho.

  • Guest

    I missed out on a bit…
So if u want to unlock new characters on SSB4 u need to buy amiibos, or can u also unlock characters without the figures?

    • Bowsah

No, you unlock characters in SB through regular means. The amiibos are essentially like memory cards. You know how in this new SB you can customize your move set for each individual character? You can save that customized move set to the corresponding amiibo figure. So, I guess if you were to bring that figure to another person’s house, you wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of customizing it again. That’s what I know so far.

  • GmailIsDown

anyone know if they are going to be region locked?

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

Link, Samus, and Fox….getting 2 out of the 3. If somehow I’m not able to get my hands on any of the first three …Peach, Yoshi, and the Villager will do nicely.

  • MadLink26

Link, Samus, then maybe all of them….lol too many to choose from
