Well, this is the end of the long, bumpy road for what was to be Aliens: Colonial Marines for the Wii U. After releasing on time in February for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC the game has gone on to be one of the worst-reviewed games of this year and it’s only April. Speaking to Joystiq, a representative of Sega has confirmed the title is no longer in development.

“Sega can confirm that the Wii U SKU of Aliens: Colonial Marines is no longer in development.”

It’s not as though Wii U owners are missing much, but it still feels as though both Gearbox Software and Sega managed to lie through their teeth throughout the launch period of the Wii U, as several times it was reiterated that the Wii U version of the game would be the best one. I guess technically it is, since it’ll never be released and that’s probably just fine.

“Awww, that’s sad. I wanted to play this on my Wii U” said NOBODY ever.

    • Ricardo Sampaio

actualy a realy wanted to play on WiiU

    • Laud

I actually would have been fine if they fixed the issues and released it.

If they did their reputation would have gone back up a little bit but now they’re known as quitters who make awful games.

      • MujuraNoKamen

I’d rather that too. I suppose it is a bad game but if they’d have fixed the bugs, poor AI, graphics and all that stuff then it could have been the best version and maybe a good game but now, as you said, they’re quitters who make awful games.

    • Bob Brochee

I did. One of my most anticipated titles since last years E3. A shame that the best version of this shitty game will never even see the light of day. By the way, I base whether I like a game or not by playing it, not by reviewers with an agenda…

      • sdmac200600

        best shit is still shit

    • [000]

Who really didn’t see this coming?

    • NkoSekirei

good ridiance no one wants to play that garbage game except for the trolls

  • Robknoxious1

About time they made it official and put that dog out of it’s misery. Despite everything I’ve heard I still wanna give that game a rental. I’m fine with doing that on my 360 instead of soiling my new Wii U.

    • Nothing5555

Maybe some day a developer will create a fantastic Aliens game….Sadly that day is not today.

    • Phillip Fauble

      Probably is just fine. 😀

  • LopsidedPasta

    Thank God

  • ronaldco91

Haha, this is actually doing us favor.

  • Dominic Coradazzi

  • Scott Duperree

funny, it probably is technically the best version

    • sithWiiU

      Doubt it.

      • Phillip Fauble

Why? Why would you release something on multiple consoles and have the most powerful console’s version identical to the less powerful consoles? With the port, it doesn’t take much to do some upgrades to it. Most of that stuff is built well and then dumbed down to run on consoles.

        • dylanbob121

step 1:fix all mistakes from origanal
          step 2:give it more personality
step 3:Make the graphics not look like 2004
step 4:Make good use of the U pad
step 5:give it a release date
          Thats better

      • Scott Duperree

I mean, the best because it didn’t get released

  • Fred

This doesn’t make ANY sense to me. They could at least get a little bit of their money back. If they were to release it on the Wii U eShop as is for $2.99 there are still people that would buy it (obviously not many but some would). At least this way they could take a smaller loss than they’re currently taking.

    • Cerus98

Even E Shop titles cost money. Someone has to pay for the bandwidth and storage, advertising, promotion etc. Downloadable titles are by no means cost free. I would go as far to say a retail copy costs less. Mass produced cases and stamped discs are very cheap to manufacture. They’re also guaranteed a profit as soon as a retailer pays for a shipment. Selling it for so little on the E Shop would only cause further loss of money.

      • Fred

Yes they cost money and Nintendo covers the cost of bandwidth and storage. When I download eShop games (which I do frequently) a portion of my money goes to the company that made the game and a portion of the money goes to Nintendo. If they print discs the cost of the case and disc might be small, but you have to remember that Best buy/Walmart/Amazon/Game Stop all take a cut and you know they won’t be willing to buy many (if any) considering they’ve already been burned by this game (on the other consoles)

        • Cerus98

Retailer “cuts” is the retail profit they make on a wholesale purchase.

          • Fred

Where did you say anything about retailer cuts? You never addressed the point that these stores aren’t likely to buy the Wii U version if they can’t sell their PS360 versions

  • Jimmy D. Fugate

    This is actually good news.

  • B. Adriano

I wonder what happens to the developers if a game they worked so hard on gets canceled. There’s been so much layoffs in the game industry just this week. I hope Demiurge Studios has been compensated or is given a chance to rework the game into something else.

  • Ducked

Its a fact that you can’t polish a turd. That’s all gearbox would be doing if they released this.

  • tooby77

Told u!! Guess, from my pov this game gets in the same box like 007 and twd. I have owned 007 and twd. I had very high hopes from those games and damn i was disapointed. Iam fine this game never hit the shelfes. Poor worker, hope they get paied to do better games

  • Saleh Sbeiti

    OH NOO… i guess.

  • This is the only good news the wii u has ever had.

  • Rob Lucci

Bury this game next to the E.T games.

    • dylanbob121

No,E.T. is to good to lay next to a pile of crap

  • CyanideInsanity

Given enough time, they could fix it. Probably wouldn’t be worth the time though.

  • testicularious

  • Super Buu

I knew this was eventually going to happen.

  • Yes, IT IS the best version: the one that never saw the light! hahaha

  • Mark Thom

don’t worry guys nintendo is going out of their way 4 U GUYS!!!!! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=535299

  • Kind of had a feeling this was going to happen.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Ah well. I guess they realized an improved Wii U version with better graphic, control, and AI wouldn’t be enough to salvage this game considering how terrible the scores have been

  • Tom Hoskins

Despite knowing this was inevitable after how much the game has been panned, I’m still really pissed off. I bought the wii u for many reasons (most of which are still to come) number one was ZombiU – for me an absolutely brilliant game, far better than the most recent resident evil. The second reason was for having the motion tracker in my hand – Aliens is my favourite movie and I believed the hype that the WiiU version would be the best.
Oh well, I need to complete the games I have then I can justify the purchase of Lego City and Need for Speed U, then there’ll be Watch Dogs. Plenty to keep me going but I really wanted this two months ago (and to be great…)!

  • Teem Four Tress Too

whatever, those games were s****y anyway.

  • Cadrion

You know…a video game that was done on the story of Aliens could be super awesome…I wonder if it’s because it’s a movie name that it sucks so bad…Maybe rename the idea when making the game? hehe… Nevertheless, probably better for the U.

  • Aiddon

well, looks like ultimate version of the game Pitchford bragged about will no longer see the light of day

  • Johny

haha love the “…Wii U version of the game would be the best one. I guess technically it is, since it’ll never be released” haha xD good one wiiudaily…
also yea… i was looking forward to this game as how much they hyped and how good they made it look it would be.. also the “so much better” version on the U.
but… this game has got to be one of most dissapointing and BS games released in a LOONG time… i dont know what they were thinking…
so its kinda the only right thing to do to not release on wii u too

  • Well this game is one of the games I was looking forward to playing on the wii u, this and zombi u.

    • dylanbob121

look at the reviews you don’t want to play this game.

  • Lusunup

lol the wii u one is the best one alright because it didn’t come out on it. It was a horrid game.

  • Some more good news!!!!

  • ps4ultimania

and like it matters???? this games already long forgotten

  • Ca$e

waited for month to play this game and now it’s canceled…thank U Sega!

  • dgallo911

The worst part is, this game probably would have sold really well on Wii U as a crappy game is better than NO game lol.

  • Jeovany

Why would people want to play this. There is no way they would ever fix the bugs on the wii u year version

  • Andrew Longo

This game did NOT deserve the shabby treatment it got. There are MUCH worse games out there that are praised for seemingly no reason whatsoever. It pains me to see so many talented developers being dumped on after merely trying provide entertainment to a bunch of spoiled gamers. The tragedy is that we live in a world where the same people who complain that we get a re-skinned COD and Assassin’s Creed game every year FINALLY get a new, solid and original title based on an iconic and popular universe and what do they do? Slam it. REALLY GUYS. It’s an absolute joke. I have lent this to a bunch of my friends and I guess we must just have really low standards because we all liked it. We were all happy with it, being gamers since the Sierra/Lucasarts days there is a lot for a game to live up to and Aliens while flawed, was still very easy to sit through and even brought some intense moments onboard. The upgrade system alone was interesting enough to keep me going. I realize those people complaining probably didn’t play Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Rising or Bioshock Infinite, arguably the biggest games this year so far, instead just sat on Black Ops 2 multiplayer and pretended you were real gamers. Get lost all of you honestly it’s time to grow up.

  • RyuNoHadouken

im sure they could re-do it with the same graphical fidelity of the demo released last year and hone the A.I. wouldnt cost much money…I say they kickstart it
