Since the Wii U’s launch in November of last year, many fans have been asking Nintendo when the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS would have unified accounts, similar to how PSN works for both the PS3/PS4 and the PlayStation Vita. Nintendo has acknowledged the need for a unified account for its two hardware devices, but it appears as though nothing is concrete in terms of when it will arrive. According to Nintendo of America’s Dan Adelman, Nintendo knows this is a feature that is asked for, but the company hasn’t focused on it: “We don’t have anything new to announce, unfortunately, other than we’ve definitely heard that feedback many times from both inside and outside the company. It’s definitely something that we’re very much aware of. All development for the infrastructure really happens out of Japan, so we’ve kind of communicated this need in the market, and they’re very much aware of it and working towards really just always improving the eShop.” It looks like this is a case of Nintendo of America understanding its region needs something, but its hands are tied by decisions made by Nintendo of Japan. I would like to say it takes Responsibility! IDK Nintenjoe82 *We know you want a unified account system but we also know you will pay twice for the same game if we don’t give you that option* Ashley King Hit the nail on the head, my friend. Zorpix It’s not even about that though. I mean, sure in part it is, but like, I just want an account not tied to my console. Can’t be THAT hard to figure out Nintenjoe82 If they can transfer Wii purchases to a Wii U and can detect Wii purchases on the Wii U eShop the only thing stopping it happening is Nintendo. . Bob Wilkerson You are right and you can get your purchases transferred to a new console but it is a pain in the arse as you have to get Nintendo involved. I know a few that have done this with only one because of the console they originally had becoming bricked within the 30 day purchase period. The other two people I know that had this done originally had a White Basic Unit and then got the deluxe unit a few months later (they were hard to find initially) and called Nintendo and had all their stuff transferred to the new console and allegedly disabled on the old console. Once transferred they did a factory reset/erase on the old console. A better system making it more end user self sufficient would be most welcome even if it has some ties to the console it is used on. Zorpix that’s what I’m saying Daniel Gonzalez True story bro. Wayne Beck Considering Nintendo is giving people a massive discount on the Wii U versions of Wii software, I don’t think you can really attribute this one to corporate greed. The fair truth is it probably just comes down to infrastructure. The Handheld and Console divisions in Nintendo have run practically as separate companies for 25 years. Different buildings, different servers, different programmers. They have only begun merging this past year. Nintendo is not one for half-assing things either. When they do release the unified account system, they probably want to have at least all of the Virtual Console games from each system running on both systems. Nathaniel Lopez I remember reading an article a while back saying that they are aware of this and that they are working on it, but have run into some problems along the way. You can read into that as saying that they’re taking their time with it to do as you said or that they generally are putting work into adding this feature, but just don’t quite know how to at the moment. I would give them the benefit of the doubt seeing as Nintendo is still fairly new to the online account/community scene. Kristian Kouvo Not a valid point, since the unified system would sell more consoles, ultimately also more games. These things take time, that’s all. Mr. Berzerk I two accounts joining would be ok, but really my main beef is with the fact that I can’t transfer my saved game data to another account. They started that retarted thinking with Nintendo of North America (notibly smash bros.), and people just kind of shrugged at the lose. I don’t recommend my friends by games when you can’t take your disc AND SAVES over to a friends house and play them. I don’t see how being able to save your game data generically is an issue for pirating…. slush_puppie i would love to be able to transfer saves to myself, on different systems. example, i have zelda 2 (aol) on both 3ds and wii u. that game takes a while, especially for me – since i kinda suck at it, so there’s a lot of grinding. i don’t want to have to suffer through hours and hours of my own inability to be good at that game to reach the further dungeons again. if there was some way to sync saves for the same vc game across multiple platforms, i would be a pig in sh!t. Michael DeVore “I don’t see how being able to save your game data generically is an issue for pirating….” You’d understand if you were into the hacking side of it. The first hacks of any console normally come though the save file. The first Wii hack was from Twilight Princess. The name of the horse didn’t have a length check when it was read from the file. A savvy hacker just had to remove the null pointer that shows the end of the name and load in any data they wanted. That could be anything from a home brew linux kernel, roms and emulators, or even just pirated games. At least Nintendo didn’t go with uber-expensive memory cards a-la the Vita to combat it. Nintenjoe82 don’t worry, I heard there’s a Nintendo direct regarding cloud saves coming in 2021! Zuxs13 Those of you with club nintendo accounts, use the survey’s on them to keep pushing this account system. This is where Dan and Nintendo (among other areas) are hearing this complaint from. They need to hear it more and more. Pdxmojo81 Great idea! Nintenjoe82 Don’t forget the Miiverse. I wish people would campaign for more demos. I was shot down for trying to tell the Miiverse’s “end region locking” campaigners that they were not asking for anything useful to anyone and should be demanding the e3 demos from Nintendo. Their responses were things like ‘e3 demos were buggy and might kill their console’. Zuxs13 I dont use miiverse but it sure seems like a good area to get directly to Nintendo. Seemed to work with EarthBound. Tim van Broekhoven Hup Magnus Eriksson My Mii from Miiverse was actually in Official Nintendo Magazine today. 🙂 CMB Lucky.. Magnus Eriksson Yep, Im dancing around in my apartment – naked and euphoric. Merrfn Your kidding! :O Magnus Eriksson Scroll down to Super Mario Bros. There I am. 🙂 http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/54511/features/yeah-its-miiverse-monday/ Merrfn Impressive. Magnus Eriksson Yup, making people angry at me in Miiverse too. Merrfn Why? You using some bragging skills or something? slush_puppie every time i fill out a survey i rate the game accordingly, and the eshop service a medium score, with a prewritten statement i have saved on my computer about desiring purchases to be tied to a single account. also mention that having games tied to systems keeps me from doing stuff like buying system revisions, and new colors etc (example, i would sell my blue 3ds xl and get a black one, if it was as easy as reformatting the blue one and logging in on the new one). having to jump through hoops and doing system transfers is not something i feel like doing. to get me to buy more stuff, they should make it easy peasy lemon squeezy. Zuxs13 I do a similar thing. I dont mind buying the games or the prices, i get enough discounts to make up for the prices, but not being able to keep them and move them to a new console sucks. I would go out and buy the new Zelda Wii U bundle if i could keep the 40 plus games i have on the current one. Give my old one to my nephew and poof they have two consoles sold to one person. Arthur Jarret Funny, I put it into the survey for every digital purchase I’ve done for years now – since they started surveys instead of just giving you the stars (coins in the US, I think) C4 Please understand Tim van Broekhoven *delays another 10 games* “Please understand” Daniel Gonzalez That sounds about accurate. Merrfn We accidentally sold all of your credit card details to a third-party source for billions of dollars. “Please understand” Magnus Eriksson I still believe sakè is the one to blame here. The triforce of ignorance, arrogance and greed (Iwata, Miyamoto and Reggie) spend more time drinking saké and visiting bordellos than making games. Merrfn Magnus you are such a little fucking troll xD I love the way newcomers to the site go all “1v1 me bro” at you. Magnus Eriksson 1.97 in the metric system. 140 kilo. Not that little 😀 CEObrainz If anything, it will happen eventually when a major dev will need it for some cross console game-play or when the Wii U user base is so big that they have to act or fear losing paying customers. Magnus Eriksson You think that will do it? Sorry to say this, but big N is a bit arrogant and ignorant towards other devs. They are, have always been and will probably always be in the future. Jack5221 I feel like it hasn’t happened yet because they’re focusing on getting more Wii U consoles to sell. Expect it to come like next year. :-/ Ducked Still waiting for 3DS to be a controller for games like Super Mario 3D world, Mario Kart 8, and Smash Bros. Tim van Broekhoven ? Ducked You know, like MH3. Tim van Broekhoven Sorry, I didn’t play it… But do you mean you can use a 3ds as a wii u gamepad? That sounds awesome! And is that possible with Monster Hunter? Ducked Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying, and yes, you can 🙂 Tim van Broekhoven Wow… Cool… *now searching for it on youtube* Daniel Gonzalez Have fun waiting. Magnus Eriksson Yeah, no signs that this is going to happen anytime soon. Nintendo dropped the ball long time ago. Ducked Capcom did it with MH3. I wouldn’t count it out. It gives people a reason to buy both systems. Anthony K Aurelia I’m hoping the Summer update will make this happen…I thought that was another reason for the 2DS. If so, count me in on the portable front… Ducked Same here as well, the 2DS would make a great controller. Tim van Broekhoven I hope it will happen soon… The idea that all my saves and downloads are gone when my Wii U or 3DS breaks really scares me! cs_shane Cue the Nintendrones telling you that you can always send it into Nintendo and actually pay them to “fix” it. Seriously though. I know how you feel. The moment Ninty gets a unified account system is the moment I start going digital. Tim van Broekhoven That sounds like a good plan. Though, you are missing out on some really good games that way. There are loads of great indie games and virtual consoke games ou there. cs_shane I don’t actually mind getting cheap(er) indie games. It’s the full retail digital versions that I avoid like the plaque. I don’t feel like potentially losing a couple hundred worth of games. Tim van Broekhoven No. Neither do I. But I also don’t like to donload reatail games because I prefer to have them with a case so I can hold them.. LoL Gabe Hoffman A unified account system is not as simple as it looks. You need to have dedicated servers to monitor and track purchases on millions of accounts in real time. Then you need to figure out where to put those servers and than how to maintain security for all those accounts. Running servers is not cheap and it definitely isn’t free either. To be honest Dan isn’t really the guy in charge of such things so he might not really know much about whats going on in that end. At least they recognize the issue. Nintendo is relatively small compared to Microsoft and Sony so they have to prioritize more. Right now for Wii U their biggest priority is getting more games out and selling more systems. cs_shane Club Nintendo says “Hi”. Sylux Maybe Nintendo should set their pride asside for a change? I know for Japanese People pride is evereything, but they can’t stick in the past with things like that right? I hope Nintendo wakes up soon. *Pinches Nintendo* * Whispers Wake up Nintendo* Daniel Gonzalez They’ve been asleep since the N64. Magnus Eriksson This is my dream too. Although its a very faint dream now. But I miss the old days, not in the way that I want the old days back today. I want them to do today what they did back then. Not remake old things but make new stuff. Put everything from NES and SNES out for free on Virtual Console. Take a small fee for N64 and GCN games. Stop the endless remaking and milking of dead cows. Make new games. Make new versions of Metroid, Zelda, Mario, Kid Icarus, Ice Climbers or whatever. But make them new, not remakes. Show why they are good on the pad, or with the Wii Mote. But show people that YOU ARE NINTENDO. Not sit in your boarding room telling each others this while you see your latest console is failing. Magnus Eriksson Said it before. Iwata must go. Merrfn I think I can help with that. Magnus Eriksson Haha, that girl is so scary:D Daniel Gonzalez Hahaha. That’s one creepy kid. I’m with you on that one. Iwata needs to step down and go back to Hal Labs. I have nothing against the guy, but I feel he’s taking Nintendo in the wrong direction. Merrfn Yeah, he seems like a nice guy but Nintendo needs some fresh blood at upper management. Daniel Gonzalez One that doesn’t start with phrases like “Please Understand” and “Please be patient.” We’ve heard these all. How about something like “YOU WANT GAMES?! YOU GOT IT!” Then deliver them with minimal delays. Merrfn One of the things I love about Iwata is the way he always bows at me. It makes me feel like I am his superior. Kristian Kouvo Not funny. You tried your best I guess. Merrfn It’s a meme. (ಥ﹏ಥ) aldo2410 The only thing that stops me from buying a 3DS is the account sistem, I mean I want to post on my same miiverse acount anywhere, and I’m sure that many people who own a 3DS dont buy a Wii U for the same reason Wiiluigi Really? You’re not getting a 3DS because of unified accounts? Dude the 3DS has a TON of great games. You’re missing out man. I have both I love them both. And if you wanna post from anywhere on miiverse use the Mobile site they have for your phone. I promise you will not be disappointed with the 3DS. aldo2410 the account is only a small reason (the major problem is that I don’t have enough money and I’m not getting the 2DS) but if they unify the accounts I will sell one of my kidneys just to get a 3DS. Wiiluigi Lol. 2ds as you know is cheaper. Also doesn’t have 3d obviously. But to tell you the truth. I don’t even use the 3d slider that much. At first I did. After awhile you just use 3d to see how it looks and that’s that. I think a lot of people don’t use it that often. Wayne Beck Still calling this for Next Months Update. He’s been talking about this a lot lately and he just keeps dancing around the question grinning like an idiot. Merrfn Yeah, I feel it coming too. If he was just trolling us, I will be mad. leo Come on Big N! Gibosdog Having a WiiU, 3ds and 3ds xl….. the should really be a way to make it unified. Kristian Kouvo Try supporting these consoles for a change – instead of constant whining. You might get better results in the end.
