The Wonderful 101 will launch later this month in Japan and Europe, and on September 15 in North America. Nintendo recently released a lengthy Wonderful 101 gameplay trailer, and now we’ve got a bunch of videos showing a bunch of gameplay footage. If you want to try the game out yourself, the demo is now live on the Wii U eShop in all territories. Nintendo doesn't need 3rd parties, says Stardock CEO longschlongsilver At first I was really meh about this game, but after the direct and the demo, all I have to say is insta-buy. Shaise Even I was meh, the demo I’d say… Its ok, its certainly made me think better of it, but really want to save my funds for other games coming to Wii U Zombie Boy I’m with you, this is on my ‘maybe’ list after the demo. It was good, but there’s other games coming that look fantastic (Sonic, Assassins Creed 4 – I’m not normally an AC fan, but that looks awesome – Wind Waker HD…). We only have so much cash, after all, and I want to give each game the time it deserves, which I can’t do when I buy too many at once. Clel At first I was really hyped about this game, and then, after trying the demo I was like ‘meh’ Zombie Boy I think what let it down for me was the small characters preventing me from making out what was going on too clearly (though I was playing on my temporary 20″ TV and this may not be a problem for people with bigger screens), the fixed camera angles (I got confused where to go once or twice during the demo) and the tutorial wasn’t very clear. I don’t need a game to hold my hand, but once or twice the instructions didn’t really make it clear what I was supposed to do (such as when I had to separate my team into two or build a ladder up the wall). So really it was one problem that I imagine most people won’t have and two problems that could be solved with a bit more practice and patience on my part! It’s not a bad game, it just didn’t ‘do it’ for me on my playthrough because of those issues. longschlongsilver I actually had the same problems at first,on my very first playthrough of the demo, I had no idea what I was doing, the instructions were small and tucked in a corner and disappeared after a few seconds. They just kind of throw you in like a defenseless kid, lol. But I just gave it a chance and I got the hang of it by the second playthrough, and I started to really enjoy it. I liked this game, although I do agree with Shaise, there are lots of awesome games coming this holiday season, and and not enough money to go around, so I think this one will have to wait. Sealed by the Holy Spirit Wind Wake rHD is not even on my radar compared to this game. The Wonderful 101 is made by the same dudes doing Bayonetta 2. MUST HAVE! Zombie Boy I’ve never played Wind Waker, so that’s why it is such an important game to me. Rugmouse This is completely understandable. I have actually spread myself a little thin as of late as well, playing multiple titles at the same time. It just doesn’t feel right. The Wonderful 101 demo gave me a great feel for how deep the combat mechanics are. The first time through the game I was essentially mashing my face against the gamepad, but subsequent play-throughs I started looking at the menus, read the tips (lol), chaining attack combos together, and using multiple unite weapons for various situations. It was a completely different game! The demo made it clear to me this isn’t just some ‘kiddie’ game to be written off by the advanced gamers – there’s a lot of depth to this one and I can’t wait to explore it further. Rugmouse WOW! I just found a way to use the Whip and Hammer in the demo! Go to mission mode and draw a circle in the area before jumping into the mission portal thing (as if you were recruiting civilians in the regular story mode). Move around until your drawing goes all rainbow mode. Congrats! You just got yourself Wonder Pink and Wonder Yellow! BEST DEMO EVER EDIT: I guess I’m not the only person to find this little gem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1eIGHLt2Gp8 FoxMulder900 I don’t really know if this applies to everyone or not, but I actually got frustrated in the first 15 minutes or so of the demo. I didn’t realize that when you draw a shape on the gamepad, it requires a certain number of heroes to fill the line. If you draw it too big, or a bunch of your guys are knocked out, it won’t work. I don’t think it did a good job of explaining that but once I figured it out I realized how cool it could be. I recommend playing the demo a few times to really get a feel for it. I’m hooked now! Shaise I was frustrated too! FoxMulder900 Try it a few more times, it is unique, so it definitely has a learning curve! sd Sorry I find these comments about saving funds amusing. The only reason is due to the previous lack of games. I would have thought all Wii U owners would have had more than enough time to save up for almost every new game release because of the lack of games. Shaise I’m only 14 & dont have a job! I got money on my birthday anyway sd That’s fair enough. Seriously my comment wasn’t having a dig at you or your lack of money, more about the lack of software until now. We get no software for months and then tonnes of games to choose from in the coming months. Makes it difficult for some, so yes make sure you choose the best games that appeal to you. Derk Realistically, I could see where this might be fun to rent; however, I played for like 20 minutes and put it down… Its basically Pikmin fighting crime with props and toilets on their head. I expected a little more creative freedom when making weapons and stuff but it might be worth a play through someday. I mean… It was a cute title and everything but I really wouldn’t recommend anyone buying this at launch while it is at full price. starwars360 Shut up Wario Derk the Troll. 😛 Mochlum OH MY GOD HE DOESN’T LIKE A NINTENDO EXCLUSIVE! HE MUST BE A TROLL Clel ^ This People need to realize the difference between a troll and someone who simply disagrees. Derk Wonderful 101 is exactly the type of game that ends up in the bargain bin. Pokémon Rumble U is $18.00 and Wonderful 101 is $60.00. Does anybody actually think that this game is worth that full price? sd The game controls frustrated me a lot. But that’s just because I havnt spent the time to learn them. But is this game worth $60…..hell yes, I can see the greatness here. starwars360 You don’t fully understand about The Wonderful 101. Game is mix of Pikmin and Viewtiful Joe for reasons. Gameplay is tons of fun as well lovely graphics. Game will be fine. You don’t like it then we all bargain bin you!!! Just get game for play as hell fun with it. It is important for games over complaints. Price is fine since tons of contents in single-player. There so many games outside of Wii U got bad sales but still 40 to 50 pounds (UK price) 😛 disqus_sgtob6da3X I just find it a ironic that people were whinning and complaining about Nintendo not putting ads and explaining the game or even putting up a demo. Now, they done that, now everyone like ‘meh’ or it terrible. I’m still buying it to help support kamiya and their hard work on this game. mastercutsac im as excited about this as the next guy.. but come on can you cats seriously post the pikmin 3 winner already! i only made an account for that contest and you guys are acting like it never happened. Mariokartfann Hold on, I’m watching a movie. What movie, you ask? Everything posted about the Wonderful 100-er, 101 Clel “I knew we’d forgot someone” Mariokartfann Yeah, YOU MrBuney Wii never forget “U” 😉 mastercutsac PIKMIN 3 WINNER PLEASE >;D Ashley King I’m working on it. We have over 500 replies to tally up and check for duplicates, etc. Expect the announcement on Monday and thanks for being patient. starwars360 ;P Linskarmo Thanks for the heads-up. The Libyan So if someone comments three times, then their first comment is taken and the second and third are rejected? starwars360 CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOT WAIT!!!!!!!! Sorry my loud lol This game going be great. Tons of fun!! 😀 starwars360 Wii U will have biggest smiles. 8) Fuck off trolls. 😀 WellWisher Not going to watch these or any more videos for this game. Played the demo a couple of times. Pre ordered straight away. Don’t want to ruin the rest for myself. Gotallofthem Just played the demo, the trailers gave way to much away. Zorpix I played the demo and was actually a little disappointed. was near impossible to figure out what all the menus did and the tutorial just didnt do the greatest job. I’m not writing it off yet, but it was kind of a frustrating game. Too bad. I really dug the story Gotallofthem That was part of the fun for me, I had to learn it on my own. Played it for about 3 hours yesterday and the whole 1st hour was figuring out the controls/getting a hang of them, going through all the menus. Guess you never played a game which didn’t come with a full blown tutorial that held your hand. Well I grew up with games like that, so this was no biggie for me. My advice to you, is just play longer, I’m not sure how old you are, if your a kid, ask an older person for help. If your 18+, just play some more. david jarman I agree. I too grew up that way. Mercurio2054 I can play some games with little instructions, some times is better, so you play one more time to beat the time, and you feel like you really are investigating the way it meant to be played Zorpix excuse me sir, but I dont need my hand held. I just would’ve really liked to know what it meant when I was “recruiting new heroes” like wonder painter. I was like, okay, sweet, I have a new wonder ability. Took me forever to figure out that switching to him just meant he was a reskin for wonder blue, which isnt a big deal, but I would’ve liked an explanation of the character screen. sd I only played the demo briefly, the game is already pre-ordered so I want the whole game first. But I find it very impressive that you got to play a demo for 3 hours. Thats a big demo. Mochlum There’s a difference between wanting a little bit of insight and instruction on what is going on and wanting a game to throw you into a situation with little explanation of the controls or how to play >.< david jarman The controls is what made it fun for me. There’s more depth if you’re not button mashing. I love the fact you can split your team up on attacks plus switch leaders. Zorpix that was nice. It was hard to keep track of so many civilians. Kept wishing I had a whistle to regroup a lot of them at once david jarman LOL! True! That’s what I love about pikmin! Man! I can’t wait for the rest of the games to start coming in! I have to hurry up a nd beat pikmin 3 before this game comes out! Zorpix I just beat story mode, but I have a lot of work to do if i’m gonna collect ALL the fruit… david jarman Right on! I wish I had more time to play. This week was just busy. AAAkabob I agree w/ you, but give it one or two more tries. I found that it grows on you, it’s sorta like the MH3 demo, where they just throw you in. Zorpix MH3 demo I was ready for though, after putting 400 hours into the Wii one XD felony211662 You really needed to play mh before you know how to play it if u get my meaning lol. Capcom themselves said if u haven’t been playing mh from the beginning it is a steep learning curve. I personally found the wonderful 101 controls fairly easy, even compared to pikmin Zorpix hrm… Odd. I still found them a bit frustrating. Also, Kamiya isnt my favorite person. Maybe I’ll skip this one for now. But yeah. MH has dat learning curve Entropyguy The MH3 demo actually unsold me on the game. There wasn’t really any context for what I was doing and why I was doing it, and the control scheme just didn’t work for me. sd Don’t you just love that some people down vote you for a personal opinion. People need to learn the difference between a genuine opinion and someone berating something for no reason (trolls). I am up voting you just to balance out the idiotic down vote. AAAkabob At first I hated it, Then after like 15 more runs I couldn’t wait to get the game. Clel I found it frustrating too. But once I figured out the controls, it turns out that it’s pretty nifty. I just don’t draw the shapes with my finger, I use the right analog stick. You just have to try stuff, see what works. boynhisblobs Try it again. The developers own words were that the first time through is the tutorial, and the more you play it the more you’ll pick up/find. This is very true, after my third play thru the demo i finally figured out the combo attacks. The game is Amazing, give it a few more goes. Zorpix I’ll try… Agent X Sit down and learn how to play it…You have 20 tries..Same goes for the rest of YOU!! Merrfn Is there any way for me to loop around the demo release date in New Zealand? I have to wait until the end of August 🙁 (24/08/2013) Gotallofthem You will get no sympathy from me I have to wait till September, although I forgot the date…..lol Merrfn Where the hell do you live? lol. sd What do you mean by this? Do you have access to the demo in NZ? No way to get the game early but you can get the demo now easily, if its not available in NZ let me know and ill tell you how to get the demo now. Merrfn No access to the demo in NZ, until August 24th. Zombie Boy That can’t be right, we get the full game on August 23rd! Merrfn Welcome to New Zealand. Merrfn So I looked it up, and the game is released the same day as the demo over here, making the demo irrelevant as I will buy it day one. .-. Zombie Boy I suppose some people might want to play it before buying (just to see it before spending their money), but it seems a bit unfair that you don’t get the chance of an advance preview like the rest of us. sd That’s a shame. There is a simple solution. Basically you have access to the eshop from any country that you can select on your console. You would have a pal system so you can access the aus , uk, european eshops etc. To do this you simply setup a new user on your console and with that user select uk as the country for this new user (this gives you the most options) as your country or residence. I did it without an address if I remember correctly, but just make one up if you need to. Then make sure to change your console region to that country when you log in to the new user. When you log in to this new user go to eshop. It will automatically load the eshop from that region. You can purchase from uk eshop this way, and download demos not available to you. Anything you download is available on both accounts. So then just change your country or residence back to NZ and switch back to your primary user when the demo or game has downloaded and installed. It will then be accessible on your primary account. If you don’t change the country or residence back it just means you cant access the internet for that user until you change it back to match the current users registered country. So change the country of residence to match before switching to the user. I have bought many games from the UK eshop for my Australian registered wii u. The latest was cloudberry kingdom as I had credit on the uk eshop in GBP. Its a great work around, there are no limitations or problems. Kevin Sepulveda The videos + Demo made this an instant buy for me on day one. DIGITAL Download here I come! boynhisblobs Its gonna be a HUGE digital DL. Nintendofreak the best fucking hack n slash game i have ever played even better than golden axe ,so fucking addicting, fucking fun, and fucking crazy ass action ( the fuck o meter exploded from so many fucks) Gotallofthem Agreed Christopher Acuna Fbomb city. Expand your vocabulary muthahfuckah! Lol AAAkabob Agreed, please read a book or something Nintendofreak why my kind sire, does my vocabulary offend you in some kind of way i’m is just that games of that magnitude deserve to be described with words that reflect their awesomeness david jarman The game really is wonderful. sd I have been looking forward to this game so much. Initially I am slightly disapointed. One of the reasons is the controls, they will take some geting used to. This aspect of my disapointment can be fixed with more playing time. I can see the greatness in this game. Having said that there is one major thing that this game is lacking (unless I am missing something). That is the ability to rotate the camera. If I could move the camera around and zoom in or out it would be perfect. But not being able to do this is very frustrating and is going to annoy the crap out of me. Please someone tell me you can do this. I only played the demo for 15 minutes so I could have missed something. boynhisblobs you can zoom in and zoom out, i believe with R. No camera rotating tho, i believe its in a fixed third person, which i like. Reminds me of more retro games, Skate or Die anyone? sd The zoom in and out would help a lot. I don’t want to play the demo too much as I want the full game first. It does look good, but looks like the controls will take a while to adapt to and learn. The full game is released in less than 2 weeks so not long left for the full version. Zombie Boy I agree on the camera. It was one of the issues for me too. You can zoom in and out with the shoulder buttons, but I did get confused where to go once or twice during the demo because of the fixed camera angle. sd The zoom will help, I have pre-ordered it and will still buy the game. One reason is I saw an IGN video from a game reviewer that hated the game. He said he was playing it for an hour and hated it due to the camera and controls etc. Then he said he suddenly figured out how to do things and control the players correctly and he was suddenly amazed and loved the game. Rotating camera would have helped me though. Dell Goodman I tried the demo earlier. It was pretty confusing on the controls at first. Looking at the Wii U tablet, and what was on screen, it had taken me a short while to understand that the controls are really basic, and the layout of what’s on the tablet (when using the TV as a display), is there to just confuse you, since the demo doesn’t give much of a tutorial. The game is pretty fun, I was actually enjoying it. Not over the top enjoyment, but noticed I didn’t want to turn it off. Which is pretty rare for me with games lately. So I may try grab this title, feeling 50/50 on this. Since I hadn’t gotten Pikmin 3, and still waiting on some demo/store demo on that title before putting money into it. The only day one title I got at the moment is Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD. Entropyguy Yeah, the controls are a little different, with a bit of a learning curve to them. I expect having access to the manual might help. It’s still pretty fun though, and I’m *loving* the aesthetic! Christopher Acuna Excellent demo. Lots of fun I downloaded it yesterday and I have only 10 plays left on it. Lol. Day 1 buy for me. Mario This is a crazy awesome game! Jon people can no longer say that they don’t know what this game is about 😛 Sharingan This is gonna be awesome. The gameplay looks good and the story seems to be interesting. Let’s make this game a success everyone. everyone It took a second for me to figure out the controls for forming the weapons but once I did the demo was so awesome. I can see this game being an exciting challenge to get platinum on all the chapters. Rugmouse Has anyone Platinum’d the demo? If I see another Silver trophy at the end of a playthrough I’m gonna rage…lol Stephen Davis Can you guys please take a moment to sign this petition. I really think alot of us want this. I believe Rockstar is listening to this 🙂 http://www.change.org/petitions/grand-theft-auto-v-for-wii-u Truthteller I guess that is your way of saying that 101 is not happening for you. Rockstar won’t put GTA V on the Wii U because of Nintendo and low sales. Even if they put it on it, it won’t increase system sales because it will be everywhere else. 00EpicGamer00 You do realize that Rockstar has already tested GTA V on Wii U dev kits, right? Of course, this doesn’t clarify that the Wii U will get GTA, but at least there’s slight hope, since it’s been tested on the Wii U. And, also remember Nintendo has had a GTA game on one of their consoles before. So, it isn’t an impossibility that GTA V could be on Wii U. Stephen Davis YES. Absolutely it does. It is the only one other than the xbox 360 and ps3 that has been publicly announced by Rockstar. (thats a big deal) It means to me (purely speculation) that they wanted to release it for WIIU and may still do. Perhaps there is a deal between Sony or MS that we don’t know about not to say anything till released on their systems much like COD Ghosts. Yes I am hopeful as well. 00EpicGamer00 Yeah, I think there’s a possibility that it could happen. We had a GTA game on the DS, so why not the Wii U? The Wii U is certainly strong enough to handle GTA. But, the problem is the sales. But, pretty soon (if it hasn’t already) the Wii U will be picking up in sales, and that may be the extra little push, Rockstar needs. I think Rockstar really does want to release GTA 5 on Wii U. But they don’t want to end up losing money, due to the small sales of the Wii U. But, like I said, if the Wii U keeps picking up sales (like how it did with Pikmin) we will surely get GTA, in time. (Heck, I myself got a Wii U at launch BECAUSE of the announcement of Pikmin 3.) 🙂 For some reason, I predict that we’ll get GTA somewhere in December or 2014. Because, by then the Wii U will have millions and I mean MILLIONS of sales. Truthteller OK, if they TESTED it, were the tests successful and will they publish anything? Are they signed on as a publisher for the Wii U? The only way I could see the game coming to the Wii U is if Nintendo paid Rockstar to bring it to the system. If there is no online play, then the new main attraction to GTA games is mooted. 00EpicGamer00 “Were the tests successful” Here’s an article about it, they never said if it was successful or not, but it’s at least it’s something: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/05/rumour_gta_v_has_been_tested_on_wii_u_dev_kits_for_some_time I’m just saying that don’t say that GTA will never be on Wii U, when there’s a possibility that it will be. Obviously, the Wii U IS strong enough to handle GTA. But, remember that if GTA isn’t released right away on the Wii U, who’s to say it won’t be released at a later date? The only, ABSOLUTE reason why Rockstar wouldn’t put GTA on Wii U is because of the sales. Which, I completly understand that, companies need to make money too. But, soon the Wii U will pick up in sales and MAYBE Rockstar will release GTA 5. Maybe in december, or maybe in 2014. But, only time will tell. Oh, and here’s a video that’s titled “GTA 5 coming to Wii U – confirmed by IGN”: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O-DvXTI9-RI&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DO-DvXTI9-RI Truthteller Unfortunately, that is old news. Any new news would have been made already. Most of the was hype by Reggie to make people not abandon the Wii U. That was business hype. If it were a reality, it would be announced. There is no need to withhold such info as the game is no secret. I am sure the game was only tested on the Wii U, then it may have been determined that it was not strong enough. Either way, the Wii U will need a miracle by September or they might as well pack it up. If GTA V comes on the PS4, then that is an even bigger problem, although I would not buy it because I already pre-ordered my 360 version. I would only get a PS4 if the graphics were that much more advanced. Other than that, I would get the PC version. 00EpicGamer00 You know, I’m glad you can actually sit down and have a mature debate, without going insane. For some reason….You sound….Really nice. I’m surprised. But like I said, just because GTA wouldn’t released on the Wii U right away, doesn’t mean it’ll ever release. There’s still a small chance that it might. I predict that (if Rockstar still wants to) Rockstar will release a Wii U version in December, or somewhere in 2014. (By then, the Wii U will most likely have enough sales to win Rockstar over.) I’m not saying it’s 100% confirmed, I’m just saying that there’s still a chance….Even if it’s a small one. Truthteller Thanks, but I never go insane, I just speak what I feel is the way that things will go based on history and facts. It’s just that some are blinded by blind rage/dismissal of anything that does not sound supportive of the Wii U. Some of us like to face reality, not get fed fantasy. Now, the PC usually get’s GTA late, so it could be possible that the Wii U could get it, but it costs less for the game to go on the PC, so that is more profitable. I actually started playing GTA III on the PC first. GTA 4 is the first one I played on a console. If it had been on a PC first, I may have bought the PC version instead. 00EpicGamer00 Well, no offense, but it’s really your fault for getting those reactions. The way you write your comments, you come off as a very hateful person towards Nintendo. So, it’s a no brainer that you’d get those reactions. If you want to avoid reactions like that, try doing “constructive criticism.” Like what you’re doing now. Stephen Davis No I like to keep an open mind as you may do already too. I look forward to this actually. As for you take on if they will or not, there is close to 3.12 million units worldwide (I can supply source if needed) If even 30 percent were interested (which I am sure there would be more) in having it on WIIU that is more than enough for Rockstar to make a profit. Next you assume that will not increase system sales, well let me tell you people will not be able to play it on xbox one or ps4, so by WIIU being the only next gen console to have it, don’t you think that alone with all Nintendo exclusives coming end of this year would increase others purchasing one? Of course nothing to prove it, but it would make sense right? I want to add Truthteller I do see your point, I just hope you realize I can’t dawn on it, because how could I believe in something if I didn’t stand by it myself 😉 Truthteller You would be right, if not for your being wrong. How can you tell how many Wii U sales RS would need to make a profit? If UbiSoft says they need at 700K to turn a profit, then I am sure that GTA V needs at least 2/3 of Wii U owners to make it work. On top of that, Nintendo would have to hit RS off too. GTA V won’t increase Wii U sales because it is unlikely that the game will look better than the 360/PS3. It will also come on the PC and it is possible that it will come out on the X1/PS4. Anyone waiting on GTA V already has the systems for it. In addition, the online portion of the game is where the REAL fun is, and Nintendo clearly does not offer that option standard. If it were released on the Wii U, only current Wii U owners would buy it (including those who claim it is violent and only about hookers), but it would fail to attract new owners. This holds true even if it looked slightly better than the 360/PS3. Now if it looked slightly worse – then it’s over for the Wii U. Truthteller Looks interesting, I just have a feeling that people will look more than they will play. Sealed by the Holy Spirit A new Wii U game with EXCELLENT polish. Must have! Santanata At first I was really excited, now MEH -_- FoxMulder900 Try the demo again, it grows on you 🙂 Andrew Gonzalez It really does. Elem187 I didn’t get it the first few times… But once you start learning combo’s and how to chain attack your unite powers the game gets surprisingly deep. The only thing I would add to this game is either online coop or a vs. (either online or local) Daniel Gonzalez http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/3332/shutupandtakemyrupees.jpg miigamerz they have already taken my rupees. I gotz a preorder ready mii-gamer.com Blaster pack The gamepad feels so at home it’s incredible Rugmouse I completely agree. I didn’t check the options menu, but was there a way to remove all the tips from the Gamepad screen? The only issue I had was locating the civilians that were calling for help because they were hidden behind ‘how to draw unite hand’ Elem187 I believe you hold the left bumper down for a few seconds…. and hold it down again to reenable it.
